Stanozolol (abbrev. Stz), sold under many brand names, is an androgen and anabolic steroid (AAS) medication which was derived from dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It was developed by American pharmaceutical company Winthrop Laboratories (Sterling Drug) in 1962, and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for human use, though it is no longer marketed in the USA. It is also used in veterinary medicine. Stanozolol has mostly been discontinued, and remains available in only a few countries. It is given by mouth in humans or by injection into muscle in animals.

Unlike most injectable AAS, stanozolol is not esterified and is sold as an aqueous suspension, or in oral tablet form. The drug has a high oral bioavailability, due to a C17α alkylation which allows the hormone to survive first-pass liver metabolism when ingested. It is because of this that stanozolol is also sold in tablet form.

Stanozolol is one of the AAS commonly used as performance-enhancing drugs and is banned from use in sports competition under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and many other sporting bodies. Additionally, stanozolol has been used in US horse racing.

Medical uses

Stanozolol has been used with some success in treated venous insufficiency. It stimulates blood fibrinolysis and has been evaluated for the treatment of the more advanced skin changes in venous disease such as lipodermatosclerosis. Several randomized trials noted improvement in the area of lipodermatosclerosis, reduced skin thickness, and possibly faster ulcer healing rates with stanozolol. It has also been used to successfully treat hereditary angioedema.

Notes on temperatures the properties:

At cold storage below 0°C temperatures the properties of this water-based nano-suspension might temporarily change (e.g. higher viscosity, cloudiness). If stored at cold temperature, the product should be brought to room or body temperature before use. The suspension for intramuscular injection is to be visually inspected prior to use and only clear solutions free from particles should be used.

Notes on handling the OPC (One-Point-Cut) ampoule:

There is a pre-scored mark beneath the coloured point on the ampoule eliminating the need to file the neck. Prior to opening, ensure that any solution in the upper part of the ampoule flows down to the lower part. Ensure that temperature of ampule is between 33-38 °C. Use both hands to open; while holding the lower part of the ampoule in one hand, use the other hand to break off the upper part of the ampoule in the direction away from the coloured point.

Storage
Store at room temperature, 10° – 24°C.
Avoid freezing. and cool temperatures below 10°C.

DO NOT FREEZE

When freezing and thawing cycles are repeated it will lead to an irreversible aggregation and with the result that the properties of the formulation may be drastically changed. If freezing occurs water can enlarge and even break the vial.
